History
of FACETS
FACETS
was founded in 1988 to respond to the diverse and multiple needs
of homeless and low-income people living in Fairfax, Virginia. It
began as an outreach project by its founder, Linda D. Wimpey, and
three Episcopalian churches. Today, more than 80 local faith partners,
along with numerous businesses and organizations serve as FACETS'
partners.
Initially,
FACETS' work consisted of delivering hot meals to homeless families
three nights each week and personal outreach by Ms. Wimpey. Nightly
meals have been served by a core of over 600 church volunteers and
about 40,000 meals were served in the last year.
With
the help of an additional 400 volunteers, FACETS provides social
work services and programs for families in shelter (The
Homeless Intervention Services Program) and at four assisted
housing developments (The Family Enrichment
Services Program),as well as manages a mentoring program for
both adults and youth. FACETS also supports and provides case management
to the Supportive Housing Program, which
provides the opportunity for homeless people living in extreme poverty
to reside in a home with social work supports, mentors and financial
assistance.
FACETS'
history has been one of growth in the number of people served and
in the quality of its services. The organization is led by a 15
member Board of Directors which is responsible for strategic planning
and resource development. The staff consists of the
Chief Executive Officer, a Deputy Director of Programs and Administration, a Director of
Development, a Volunteer Program Manager, four social workers, three
Program Coordinators, and an Executive Assistant.
