History of FACETS

FACETS was founded in 1988 to respond to the diverse and multiple needs of homeless and low-income people living in Fairfax, Virginia. It began as an outreach project by its founder, Linda D. Wimpey, and three Episcopalian churches. Today, more than 95 local faith communities, as well as numerous businesses, schools and organizations actively serve as FACETS' Partners.

Initially, FACETS' work consisted of delivering hot meals to homeless families three nights a week and personal outreach by Ms. Wimpey. In the past year, nightly meals and Sunday morning breakfasts were served by a core group of 35 faith partners and 1000 volunteers who cooked and delivered more than 42,000 meals to men, women, children who are homeless in Fairfax.

With the help of an additional 400 volunteers, FACETS also provides social work services, housing, and supportive programs for individuals and families that are homeless or living in four government-subsidized housing sites in Fairfax County. More details about our programs are on the FACETS Programs page.

FACETS' history has been one of growth in the number of people served and in quality services. The organization is led by a 15 member Board of Directors who are responsible for strategic planning.
